The apple pie from McDonalds tastes amazing. It is different to most apple pies because it has a crispy crust. When I first tried the McDonalds apple pie I was really impressed and thought that will be impossible to copy. It is deep fried and super sweet so it can’t be healthy. But I was wrong. After experimenting a little I found the perfect healthy recipe. And yes it does taste almost the same!

You may now ask yourself how is it possible to get this pie crispy without frying it or adding tons of oil. But it is actually very easy. As you see in the picture the texture is perfectly golden brown and is super crispy. Just brush the pie with egg before baking. It will be perfect.

Here is the recipe!
Ingredients (for two apple pies)
Dough
- 100g flour
- 2 tbsp of stevia (or sweetener of choice)
- 70g Greek Jogurt
- 2 tbsp baking powder
- 1 egg
Filling
- 2 apples
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 50 ml water
- 1 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F / 200°C.
- Mix all ingredients for the dough (minus the egg). Then mix it with your hands until it forms a ball.
- Cut into 2 parts of the same size and roll out into thin slices.
- Peel and cut the apples into small pieces. Put them in a pan with 50ml of water, honey and cinnamon.
- Cook over medium heat until the apples turn into a puree. Take the pan of the heat and mash them with a fork. Pour in a container and let it cool off.
- Put some flour on a baking sheet and place the slices. Put some of the apple jam in the middle of the slices and close as shown in the pictures. Press the edges with a fork to close the pastry (picture below).
- Brush the apple pies with beaten egg so they turn out perfectly golden.
- Bake for 12 – 15 minutes.
- Enjoy warm or cold!
